CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore attackman Steele Stanwick (Baltimore, Md.) earned this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week honor for the period ending Feb. 21. Stanwick, who scored three goals and notched two assists in UVa’s road win at Drexel on Saturday, earned his first career weekly honor from the ACC.

Stanwick scored all three of his goals after halftime, including what proved to be the game-winning score. His second goal of the day with 12:03 left put UVa up by one goal. After Drexel tied the game with 5:40 left to play, Stanwick took on two defenders and spun to his right to score what proved to be the winning goal with 3:37 left to play. The Cavaliers would add two more goals, including one on a Stanwick pass. After a double team near the crease, he found an open Chris Bocklet to cap Virginia’s scoring. Stanwick also added three ground balls in the winning effort.

No. 2 Virginia returns to action Tuesday when the squad travels to Mount St. Mary’s. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
