ATLANTA—Virginia sophomore guard Sylven Landesberg (Flushing, N.Y.) is one of the top 30 midseason candidates for the Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T, one of the nation’s most prestigious college basketball awards. The top 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club’s Board of Selectors, comprised of leading basketball journalists from around the country.

Landesberg is currently averaging 17.4 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 32.0 minutes played a game. He is also shooting 82.2 percent (111-135) from the free throw line. He ranks fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring, sixth in free throw percentage and ninth in minutes played.

Landesberg has scored in double figures in 24 of Virginia’s 26 games this season and has scored 20 or more points in a game nine times.

Landesberg is one of six ACC players on the top 30 list. The others are Al-Farouq Aminu of Wake Forest, Trevor Booker of Clemson, Gani Lawal of Georgia Tech, Jon Scheyer of Duke and Greivis Vasquez of Maryland.

The four finalists for the Naismith Trophy will be announced on CBS on March 21 during coverage of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The award will be presented at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in Indianapolis.
