Cavaliers in Third Place After 36 Holes at Schenkel Invitational

Statesboro, Ga. – The No. 20 Virginia men’s golf team will enter Sunday’s final round of play at the 31st annual Schenkel E-Z-GO Invitational in Statesboro, Ga. in third place. The Cavaliers shot 1-under 287 Saturday for a 36-hole total of 3-under 573. North Florida leads the 15-team field at 12-under 564 and Auburn is two shots ahead of UVa at 571.
Virginia was led during the second round by Ben Kohles who shot 4-under 68. After posting a 4-over 76 during Friday’s opening round, Kohles moved from 62nd to 17th on the leaderboard. Will Collins continues to lead all Virginia golfers at 3-under 141. He fell back to sixth place following a 1-over 73 Saturday. He led the field after the opening round.
Steven Rojas is in 23rd place for UVa at 1-over 145 after shooting even par 72 Saturday. Kyle Stough is 38th at 147, including a 76 during the second round. Amory Davis shot 2-over 74 for the second straight day to stand 49th at 4-over 148.
North Florida’s Kevin Phelan used a 6-under 66 Saturday to take the lead in stroke play at 8-under 136.
Rain is expected in the Statesboro area Sunday when the final round is set to start at 8 a.m. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com.
