Charlottesville, VA – The No. 15 Virginia women’s golf team is in Athens, Ga., this week for the 38th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic at the University of Georgia Golf Course. The 54-hole event begins Friday at 9 a.m., with the second and third rounds also teeing off at 9 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The tournament field has expanded from its traditional size of 18 schools to 23 teams for this year’s event.

A total of 12 of the top-21 teams in the latest Golfstat rankings are included in the Liz Murphey field. No. 2 Auburn is the top-ranked team, followed by No. 4 Duke, No. 6 Alabama, No. 9 Wake Forest, No. 11 Tennessee, No. 12 Florida, No. 13 Purdue, No. 13 Michigan State, No. 15 Virginia, No. 16 Georgia, No. 20 Denver and No. 21 Ohio State. Rounding out the competing teams are Arkansas, Furman, Georgia State, Kent State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tulane and UCF.

Virginia will be paired with Kent State, Purdue and South Carolina during the opening round and is scheduled to tee off starting at 9:55 a.m. The Cavalier lineup includes Lauren Greenlief, Eleana Collins, Brittany Altomare, Nicole Agnello and Calle Nielson. Joy Kim will compete as a non-scoring individual.

The Cavaliers are coming off a fifth-place finish at the Tiger/Wave Golf Classic in New Orleans. Nielson led the team with a runner-up finish. Altomare is first on the team in scoring with a 74.19 stroke average and Nielson is second at 74.31.

Last year Virginia placed eighth at the tournament that was shorten to just 18 holes due to rain.
