CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia freshman softball player Alex Skinkis (La Palma, Calif.) has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday. She is the first non-senior to receive the honor this season.

Skinkis helped the Cavaliers to a 4-1 week, including an ACC series sweep of Virginia Tech, the first time Virginia swept the Hokies since 1998. She collected seven hits in 15 at-bats (.467), including a 2-for-3 game with one double and two runs scored in a 4-0 win over in-state foe Liberty (March 24) in the first game of a doubleheader. Skinkis was 4-for-9 with two RBI and three runs scored in the three-game set the Hokies, guiding the Cavaliers to a 5-0 conference record and first-place holding in the league standings.

Skinkis is the second Cavalier to be tabbed the conference’s player of the week this season; senior Sarah Tacke earned the award on March 16.

The Cavaliers (18-13, 5-0 ACC) will play James Madison at 6 p.m. Wednesday in a non-conference matchup in Harrisonburg, Va.
