Browns Summit, NC – The No. 12 Virginia women’s golf team is in 12th place following the first round of play at the 18-team Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. Virginia shot 16-over 304 to start the three-day tournament. Tennessee leads the field at 1-under 287.

The Cavaliers were among the tournament leaders until hitting a rough stretch on the back nine. Virginia’s four scoring players combined to finish the final five holes at 12-over par.

Freshman Brittany Altomare led the Cavaliers by shooting even par 72. She is tied for 10th place. Calle Nielson is in 30th place at 3-over 75 and Nicole Agnello is 58th at 78. Whitney Neuhauser is 67th at 79 and Lauren Greenlief is one stroke behind her in 76th place. Carly Truitt, playing as a non-scoring individual, also shot 80 on Friday.

Wake Forest’s Michelle Shin had the best scorecard, posting a 4-under 68 to hold a one shot lead.
