SAN ANTONIO, Texas – In an announcement at center court of the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, at the NCAA Women’s Final Four, Virginia senior guard Monica Wright (Woodbridge, Va.) was named to the 10-player State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team. The team is decided from a group of 40 finalists by the selection committee at an in-person meeting at the 2010 WBCA National Convention.

Wright, a regional finalist for the team in 2008 and 2009, made the team for the first time in her career. She becomes just the sixth Cavalier to ever earn the honor, and the first since former UVa forward and current assistant coach Wendy Palmer in 1996.

It is Wright’s third All-America honor of the 2009-10 postseason. She was named a first team Associated Press All-American and to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-America team.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with these high-caliber players,” Wright said. “Hard work and dedication are definitely represented on this team. I can’t say enough about my teammates that I’ve played with during my career that have helped me get to a point where I earn an honor like this.”

After leading the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring for the second-consecutive year, Wright was named the ACC Player of the Year and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. She was the second woman in the history of the league to earn both major player of the year awards in the same season (Duke’s Lindsay Harding is the other).

Wright was joined on the State Farm Coaches All-America Team by Jayne Appel (Stanford), Tina Charles (Connecticut), Victoria Dunlap (Kentucky), Kelsey Griffin (Nebraska), Amber Harris (Xavier), Jantel Lavender (Ohio State), Maya Moore (Connecticut), Nnemkadi Ogwumike (Stanford), and Danielle Robinson (Oklahoma).

Connecticut’s Maya Moore was named The State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year.
