Browns Summit, NC – Behind the third-place finish of freshman Brittany Altomare, the No. 12 Virginia women’s golf team placed 11th at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summit, N.C. Virginia shot 1-over 289, the second best score of the day, to finish the tournament at 35-over 899, one shot ahead of second-ranked Auburn.

Florida State held off 10th-ranked Wake Forest by one shot to take the team title at 9-over 873. The 18-team field included 14 teams ranked in the current Golfstat top-50.

Altomare shot a career best 4-under 68 Sunday to move up to third place. She completed the 54-hole event at 2-under 214, her best tournament score. Altomare’s finish was her second top-10 this season.

Calle Nielson was 38th overall for the Cavaliers at 10-over 226. She shot 2-over 74 during the final round. Lauren Greenlief was 43rd at 227, including a 71 Sunday. Nicole Agnello was 67th at 233 and Whitney Neuhauser was 79th at 237. Carly Truitt, playing as a non-scoring individual, was 88th at 240.

Wake Forest’s Cheyenne Woods took medalist honors at 5-under 211.

Virginia’s next tournament is the ACC Championships April 16-18 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
