CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia sophomore attackman Chris Bocklet was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week for the period ending on April 4. Bocklet shared the honor with North Carolina’s Billy Bitter.

The South Salem, N.Y., native set the tone for the top-ranked Cavaliers’ ACC-opening win when he secured his sixth hat trick of the season in just the first 5:48 of an eventual 11-10 victory over fourth-ranked Maryland.

Bocklet put Virginia up 2-0 only 2:34 into the game before Maryland even had a chance to run its offense. After scoring only four goals during his entire freshman campaign (2009), the sophomore tallied his fifth game of the season with at least four goals when he scored his final goal of the game 1:28 into the third quarter. Bocklet’s first three goals helped UVa march to a 6-0 opening quarter lead in front of a visiting crowd of 7,636 fans at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.

The honor is Bocklet’s first of his career and he is the third Cavalier to be honored with ACC Player of the Week honors this season. Rhamel Bratton was named ACC Co-Player of the Week on March 8 after his career-high four-goal performance against then No. 1 Syracuse. Steele Stanwick was named ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 22 after scoring three goals at Drexel in the season opener.

Virginia continues ACC play on Saturday, April 10, when the Cavaliers open up the New Meadowlands in the Konica Minolta Big City Classic against No. 2 North Carolina. Game time is 4 p.m. and it will be broadcast in the Charlottesville area on WINA AM 1070 with John Freeman calling the action. The contest will be televised live on ESPNU in HD.
