CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia rowing program earned a No. 1 national ranking on Wednesday (April 7) by the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA), becoming the fifth Cavalier program this year to ascend to the top national ranking.

The UVa men’s soccer team won the national championship and finished No. 1 in the polls, while men’s tennis and men’s lacrosse are currently ranked No. 1. The UVa baseball program spent six weeks atop the polls earlier this season.

In all, 11 athletics programs at Virginia have garnered a No. 1 poll ranking: baseball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, field hockey, football, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, rowing, men’s soccer, women’s soccer and men’s tennis.

Virginia’s Varsity Eight has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Crew of the Week for two-consecutive weeks, and has not lost a race this season (5-0). UVa won the prestigious Jessop-Whittier Cup and the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy with two first-place finishes in the Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight at the San Diego Crew Classic (March 28).

Most recently, the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four swept then-No. 10 Michigan and then-No. 12 Ohio State at Lake Monticello on Saturday (April 3).

The Cavaliers are back in action on Saturday, April 17, at Princeton, N.J. UVa will race against sixth-ranked Princeton and fourth-ranked Yale.
