Keveren Shatters 3000m Meet Record at Lou Onesty Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Redshirt freshman Sean Keveren led the Virginia track and field team on the final day of competition at the annual Lou Onesty Invitational at Lannigan Field on Saturday afternoon by shattering the meet record in the 3000m. Keveren led nine individual and three relay champions on the day, finishing with a time of 8:27.47 to better the previous meet record of 8:34.64.

Junior Adams Abdulrazaaq, the defending ACC Champion in the 110m hurdles, started the day for the Cavaliers by winning the event in 14.19. Senior Lauretta Dezubay then won the 1500m, finishing with a time of 4:37.91. Senior Samantha Stafford was third in the event, earning a time of 4:41.44.

In the 800m, redshirt freshman Tasia Potasinski won the event with a personal-best time of 2:11.40 and senior Jen Hovland finished runner-up in 2:14.69. Redshirt sophomore Jayna McGehee was fourth in a personal-best time of 2:16.05, while sophomore Kacen Delphin ran her best race finishing sixth in 2:20.08.

In the 400m hurdles, senior All-American transfer Steve Delice won the event in 53.23, while sophomore Meagan Gillespie had a personal record, putting in a time of 1:01.20 to finish third.

The Cavaliers had a trio of personal-best performances in the 200m, with freshman Danielle Williams winning the event in 24.66. Junior Kisha Garrick was fourth with at time of 25.01 and sophomore Malcolm Carradine finished in 22.76.

Sophomore Anna Corrigan improved her time in the 3000m, winning the race in 10:12.97.

Virginia’s 4x100m relay team of junior Kisha Garrick, junior Kristina Chapman, sophomore Meagan Gillespie and freshman Danielle Williams combined to finish first in 46.53, while the Cavaliers’ 4x400m relay teams also claimed victory. The quartet of Chapman, Gillespie, junior Lyndsay Harper and junior Chidi Uche finished in 3:43.66, while the men’s team of sophomore Kevin Anding, Abdulrazaaq, freshman Zach Vrhovac and sophomore All-American Lance Roller won in 3:12.88.

In field events, the Cavaliers earned three victories, led by sophomore Maureen Laffan’s win in the shot put. Laffan threw the program’s third-best throw of all-time, a mark of 50’ 2”. Freshman teammate Emily Vannoy narrowly finished second, throwing 50’ 1.75” to break Virginia’s freshman record and rank fourth on the program’s all-time list. Laffan previously held the freshman record, throwing 47’ 10” last season.

Sophomore Erin Wykoff won the discus competition, throwing 156’ 4” – the program’s ninth-best throw, while senior Eric Pickle won the men’s shot put with a throw of 52’ 2.75”.

The meet concluded the Cavaliers’ final competition prior to next weeks Atlantic Coast Conference Championships. The conference meet is scheduled to run Thursday-Saturday at Clemson.
