CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team swept the first of two spring tournaments scheduled in the month of April. The second will be held Saturday, April 17, as Liberty, VCU and Virginia Tech will visit Memorial Gymnasium.

The Cavaliers opened the tournament with a 2-1 win over American (23-25, 25-21, 15-11) and continued their dominance with a 2-1 win over George Washington (19-25, 25-19, 15-10). Virginia completed its tournament sweep with a decisive 2-0 win over Georgetown (25-17, 25-15) to remain perfect on the weekend.

“I thought that the weekend was very productive in showing our team not only what we did well, but also what we need to continue working on,” sophomore All-ACC outside hitter Simone Asque said. “It was also awesome to see everyone on the team improve as the day went on and making an effort to work hard while staying focused. It’s always nice to compete in our home sweet home Mem Gym and to win all three of our matches. Overall it was a good weekend.”

Competition for the second tournament will begin at 10 a.m., and conclude at approximately 4 p.m. Match format will be the best of three sets for each contest, with the third set being played to 15 points.

Fans are encouraged to meet the team and get autographs between matches. Admission is free and free parking is available at Culbreth parking garage (across University Ave.).
