Greensboro, NC – The 13th-ranked Virginia women’s golf team is tied with third-ranked Duke for second place with one round remaining to be played at the 22nd-annual ACC Championships taking place at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C. The Cavaliers and Blue Devils finished Saturday’s play at 18-over 589. Both teams shot 14-over 298 during the second round. Wake Forest, the defending champion, owns a commanding 15-shot lead at 3-over 571. The Deacons shot 1-over 285 Saturday.

Virginia was led in the second round by freshman Brittany Altomare, who shot 2-under 69. She enters the final round in third place at 1-under 141. Wake Forest’s Michelle Shin and Cheyenne Woods share the lead at 140. Altomare’s second round score is tied for the best 18-hole total of the tournament.

Cavalier junior Calle Nielson is two shots behind Altomare in a five-way tie for fourth place at 143. Freshman Nicole Agnello is 11th at 5-over 148. Nielson shot 73 in the second round and Agnello carded a 77. Lauren Greenlief is in 24th place at 154 and Whitney Neuhauser is 44th at 179.

The final round of the tournament gets underway at 8 a.m. on Sunday. Virginia, teamed with Duke and Wake Forest, will start its third round at 9:40 a.m.
