CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Freshman Melanie Mitchell has been tabbed the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the second career award for Mitchell, who was also honored the week of March 16.

The White Plains, Md., native went 3-0 in three starts, taking a 5-0 win against Hampton and 4-1 and 1-0 victories in back-to-back days over conference foe NC State.

In 24.0 innings pitched, including all 10 of Saturday’s marathon with the Wolfpack, Mitchell gave up only one unearned run on 11 hits and struck out 29 batters. She has hurled a league-leading 211.1 innings and is third with 223 strikeouts on the year.

With two wins over NC State, Mitchell helped the Cavaliers tie the school record for ACC wins in a season with nine, while her 21 wins in 2010 are the most for a Cavalier since 2002.

Virginia (27-18, 9-5 ACC) concludes non-conference play with a doubleheader Wednesday against Radford. Game times are set for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at The Park.
