CARY, N.C. — The Virginia women’s tennis team begins play at the 2010 ACC Tournament on Thursday as the championship begins at the Cary Tennis Center. The sixth-seeded Cavaliers (13-8, 6-5 ACC) meet 11th-seeded Boston College (6-15, 1-10 ACC) in the opening round at 3 p.m.

The Cavaliers, ranked No. 26 nationally, tied a school record with six conference wins this season. They finished the regular season strong, as they enter the ACC Tournament having won three of their last four last four matches.

It is the second consecutive season that Virginia and Boston College have played in the first round of the ACC Tournament. Last season the Cavaliers defeated the Eagles 4-1 in a 7 seed-10 seed first round match.

The winner of the Virginia-Boston College match will play third-seeded Clemson on Friday in the quarterfinals. The Cavaliers have lost in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament in each of the last six seasons.
