New Haven, CT – The 19th ranked Virginia men’s golf team opened play at the NCAA East Regional in New Haven, Conn. by shooting 1-over 282. The Cavaliers are tied with sixth-ranked UCLA for sixth place in the 14-team field. The top five teams from the 54-hole event will advance to the NCAA Championships.

Texas grabbed the early lead by shooting 6-under 274. Penn State and Kent State are tied for second at 3-under 277. East Tennessee State is fourth at 278 and Alabama is one shot ahead of the Cavaliers and Bruins at 281.

Virginia was led by a pair of 1-under 69s posted by Amory Davis and Will Collins. They are tied for ninth place after 18 holes. Kyle Stough shot 1-over 71 and is 27th. Ben Kohles and Henry Smart both shot 3-over 73 and are in 50th place.

Texas’ Cody Gribble leads the field at 6-under 64. He is one shot ahead of East Tennessee State’s Rhys Enoch.

The Cavaliers will tee off at 8 a.m. during Friday’s second round of play, starting on the 10th hole. Live scoring of the tournament is online at Golfstat.com
