CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia’s Jennifer Cromwell is the Atlantic Coast Conference Rowing Scholar-Athlete of the Year and eight Cavaliers are members of the All-ACC Academic Rowing Team, the conference announced Thursday (July 8).

In addition to Cromwell’s honor, Sarah Borchelt, Victoria Burke, Inge Janssen, Summers Nelson, Nora Phillips, Sarah Pichardo and Katrin Reinert earned a spot on the team.

Cromwell, a senior from Bellevue, Wash., who majored in Spanish, is a three-time first-team Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America selection. In 2010 the Cavaliers won their first-ever NCAA team title, and Cromwell was a member of the Varsity Eight that finished second in the NCAA grand final.

Cromwell was a co-captain this season and was named to the all-south region first team by the CRCA for the third-consecutive year.

The 2007 ACC Freshman of the Year, Cromwell is a two-time All-ACC selection and was part of the ACC Crew of the Year (Varsity Eight) three times during her career.

To be nominated for the All-ACC Academic team, student-athletes must have recorded a minimum of a 3.0 grade point average in the second semester and have maintained a 3.0 cumulative GPA at their respective schools.

Borchelt (So., Boston, Mass.) was named a 2010 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete and was a member of the Second Varsity Eight that finished fourth at NCAAs, won the South/Central Regional Championship and the ACC title.

Burke (Sr., Redding, Conn.) rowed with the Second Varsity Eight that finished fourth at NCAAs, won the South/Central Regional Championship and the ACC title.

Janssen (Jr., Voorburg, The Netherlands) won the 2010 NCAA Championship as a member of the Varsity Four. That crew also set a new NCAA record in its semifinal race (7:07.28). The Varsity Four was also South/Central Regional and ACC Champions en route to an undefeated season.

Nelson (Sr., Kansas City, Mo.) was a repeat selection as a CRCA National Scholar-Athlete in 2010. A member of the Varsity Eight for the entire spring season, Nelson was a silver medalist at NCAAs and was a member of the crew that won the South/Central Regional and ACC Championships.

Phillips (Sr., Arlington, Va.) was a 2010 CRCA National Scholar-Athlete as well as an All-ACC selection. She rowed with the Varsity Eight that finished second at NCAAs and won the South/Central Regional and ACC Championships.

Pichardo (Sr., Clifton, Va.) was the coxswain of the undefeated Varsity Four in 2010. The Varsity Four set a new NCAA record in its semifinal race (7:07.28) at the NCAA Championships and went on to win the grand final. Pichardo also coxed the Varsity Four to victories at the South/Central Regional Championships and the ACC Championships.

Reinert (Jr., Stuttgart, Germany) was a selection to the All-America first team and all-south region first team by the CRCA. She rowed with the Varsity Eight for the entire spring season, including its silver medal finish at the 2010 NCAA Championship. Reinert was also a member of the South/Central Regional Champion and ACC Champion Varsity Eight that was named ACC Crew of the Year and ACC Crew of the Week twice.
