NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Virginia women’s track and field team has been named a 2010 Division I All-Academic Team by the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced today by the organization.

The Cavaliers, compiling a 3.04 cumulative team GPA, are among 151 institutions to earn the distinction as a result of a GPA of 3.0 or better. Within the ACC, six programs – Florida State, Georgia Tech, Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest – have been honored for their success in the classroom.

Earlier this year, Virginia’s women were tabbed an All-Academic Cross Country Team by the USTFCCCA, while the men’s squad also earned the honor.

Individually, six Cavaliers picked up all-academic honors from the coaches association this year. Junior Catherine White earned the accolade during both the cross country and track seasons, while sophomore Morgane Gay was honored during the cross country season. Last week, graduate student Steve Delice and sophomores Kevin Anding, Sean Keveren and Matt Meyer were named to the men’s all-academic team for maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and hitting an NCAA qualifying standard in their respective events.
