Charlottesville, Va. — The Virginia Athletics Media Relations department has been honored by the College Sports Information Directors of America, winning nine awards in the 2010 CoSIDA Publications Contests. The department received five Best in the Nation certificates for media guides or media guide cover design.

“The entire staff, especially publications directors Matt Riley and Lauren Taylor, has done a tremendous job with the Virginia publications and are very deserving of these accolades,” said Jim Daves, UVa’s assistant athletics director for media relations.

The Virginia field hockey media guide was awarded Best In The Nation in the single sport category and also received a best in the nation cover award. The brochure was written by Katharine Palmer and designed by Taylor.

The Cavalier softball media guide, also produced by Palmer and Taylor, won Best Cover.

The UVa men’s tennis media guide, written by Steve Kirkland and designed by Riley, received Best Cover honors and finished third for overall tennis publications.

The Virginia men’s lacrosse guide designed by Riley and written by Vincent Briedis was also judged as the best cover among lacrosse guides. It was voted the fourth-best brochure among Divisions A, B and C entries.

The UVa baseball media guide, written by Andy Fledderjohann and designed by Riley, garnered second place honors nationally in Division A.
