Charlotte, NC – Virginia senior women’s golfer Calle Nielson was paired up against a pair of foes from the Big Ten Conference Thursday during the second and third rounds of match play at the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship at the Charlotte Country Club.

Thursday morning Nielson dispatched Michigan State’s Aimee Neff 5&4 to move into the round of 16. Her run at the nation’s most prestigious women’s amateur championship ended in the afternoon when Purdue All-American Numa Gulyanamitta defeated Nielson 2&1. Gylyanamitta helped Purdue to the 2010 NCAA Championship.

It marked the second consecutive year Nielson reached the match play portion of the U.S. Amateur.

She will join her UVa teammates Sept. 13 when the Cavaliers open their season at the NCAA Fall Preview at Texas A&M.
