CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia volleyball coach Lee Maes announced today the hiring of Jenny Andrew, who will serve as an assistant coach for the Cavaliers.

Andrew, the head coach of the 17-and-under Austin Juniors Volleyball Club team in Texas, was a four-year letterwinner for the University of Texas from 2003-06. A 6’ 2” setter for the Longhorns, Andrew was named the team’s Most Valuable Player in 2006 and was an All-Big 12 Academic second team honoree and Commissioner’s Honor Roll selection throughout her career.

She also helped Texas advanced to the NCAA Tournament three times, as the Longhorns advanced to the 2004 Sweet 16, 2005 Round of 32, and the 2006 Elite 8.

“We are absolutely delighted and fortunate to add Jenny Andrew as our new assistant coach at this time,” Maes said. “In assessing the current needs of the program, Jenny brings a terrific breadth of experience as a coach, student-athlete, business manager and marketing specialist.

“I’ve also had the opportunity to coach Jenny in the USA National Team program and I was impressed with her maturity, intelligence, personality and communication skills. Jenny is passionate about the sport and the role she has as a coach and role model. She has positively impacted those around her because she is an inherent giver. Our players will embrace her infectious personality. Jenny is positive, energetic, articulate and hard working. Her successful experiences and her wonderful traits will benefit our program as a recruiter and trainer in the gym.”

As the 17-and-under head coach of the Austin Juniors Volleyball Club – one of the top-three volleyball club programs in the nation, Andrew was named the 2010 Austin Juniors Coach of the Year and saw her team qualify for the Junior Olympic Nationals twice.

“I could not think of a more exciting opportunity than to join the staff of two previous coaches of mine in which I hold a deep respect,” Andrew said. “I was packed up ready to go within 24 hours of accepting the position and am up to the challenge. I believe in what Lee is doing here at UVa and that is taking this program to the next level. I look forward to getting to know our team and I am anxious to get the season started after a productive preseason.”

A 2007 graduate of Texas, Andrew earned a Bachelor of Science degree in sport management, with a minor in business foundations. She is the daughter of Randy and Connie Andrew and has a younger sister, Lauren.
