CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia volleyball team held its annual Blue-Orange scrimmage Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gymnasium, with both teams winning two sets in front of an impressive fan base.

The Cavaliers broke up into different teams for each set to try out various lineups for the season, and the Orange squad won the first set 25-19, before the Blue team won the second, 25-18. Both of the final two sets went into extra points, with the Orange team earning a 29-27 victory in the third stanza and Blue winning 26-24 in the fourth frame.

Sophomore Jessica O’Shoney led the team at the net, landing a match-high 13 kills and collecting a team-best seven blocks. Freshman Rachel Clark was also effective in her first game-like situation in Mem Gym, knocking down 12 kills, while sophomore Tobi Farrar had 10.

Defensively, senior AJ Cushman scooped up a match-high 24 digs, while freshman Emily Rottman collected 15 and junior preseason All-ACC honoree Simone Asque had 13.

Junior Hillary Trebels helped O’Shoney at the net, blocking five attacks, while seniors Sydney Hill and Kendahl Voelker each contributed four.

Sharing setting duties was sophomore Rachel Gray and transfer sophomore Beth Wildermuth, with Wildermuth dishing out 31 assists and Gray handing out 30 helpers.

This will mark the Cavaliers’ lone tune-up before the regular season gets underway next week. Virginia will head to Temple for a two-day tournament, facing Valparaiso at 2 p.m. on Friday. The Cavaliers will then play two matches on Saturday, taking on Delaware at 1 p.m., before playing host Temple at 7 p.m.

Virginia’s first home match will be Sept. 3, as a part of the Holiday Inn Jefferson Cup.

Season and individual match tickets are still on sale for all home contests. All season ticket holders are guaranteed a seat in a reserved general admission seating area at Mem Gym. Season tickets for adults are $30, while youth, senior and faculty/staff season tickets are $20. For a single match, general admission tickets are $5 but do not guarantee a seat in the bleachers. Youth, senior and faculty/staff general admission tickets are $4 and group tickets (20 or more) are $3 per ticket. Discounted tickets for active faculty/staff members are limited to two per match.
