The pre-season is over and the season is finally here. The girls have battled through long days of two-a-day practices, weight training, film sessions and many meetings to prepare. We are about to embark on a very long season and I feel confident the hard work will pay off.
There was great energy in Mem Gym this past Saturday afternoon. The team felt great in their uniforms and playing on the home court for the first time this year. We were able to try out multiples line-ups and I even got to step on the court myself. Besides the fact that I’m still sore, I had a wonderful time jumping in and playing with the team. I loved seeing their personalities come alive on the floor.
Coach Maes has been my official tour guide here in Charlottesville. I have been here for 10 days now and I am still getting settled in. I have met wonderful people involved with the athletics program, ventured to new restaurants almost every night and am starting to get to know my way around. The weather is fantastic, I have never had an August summer night in the 70s! I feel very lucky to be here and coach such a great group of gals. I am getting to know them more and more everyday on and off the court.
We leave tomorrow after practice for our first weekend away in Philadelphia. We hope to see you next weekend in Mem Gym! Go Hoos!
