CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The ACC announced today senior tight end Joe Torchia has been named the league’s Offensive Lineman of the Week following Virginia’s nail-biting setback against the USC Trojans on Saturday, 17-14, inside the Los Angeles Coliseum.

Torchia (Cold Spring, N.Y.) led the Virginia offense with five receptions for 73 yards, helping UVa outgain the 16th-ranked and heavily favored Trojans in total yardage by a 340 to 329 margin. His total number of catches and total yards were both career highs. His blocking in the running game helped the Cavaliers gain 150 yards on 4.2 yards per carry.

Torchia had three catches for 47 yards during UVa’s final scoring drive, including a 25-yard reception on a 4th and 13 situation. Torchia becomes the second-straight Cavalier to be named ACC Offensive Lineman of the Week, following Oday Aboushi, who was named Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week on Sept. 7

Virginia is off this weekend and returns to action on Sept. 25 when the VMI Keydets invade Scott Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. and will be webcast on ESPN3.
