CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore field hockey player Tara Puffenberger was selected the national player of the week by womensfieldhockey.com and the Atlantic Coast Conference player of the week, the organizations announced Tuesday.

It marks the second consecutive week a Virginia student-athlete earned the awards, as junior Paige Selenski picked up both accolades last week.

Puffenberger, a Dallas, Pa., native, scored four goals in wins over No. 12 Ohio State and No. 9 Syracuse over the weekend as the Cavaliers improved to 6-0 this season.

Puffenberger notched her first career hat trick with a personal-best three goals in UVa’s 4-2 win over the Buckeyes on Saturday. It marked the second hat trick for Virginia this season; Selenski scored four times against Old Dominion on Sept. 5. Puffenberger had previously scored twice in three games as a freshman last season.

On Sunday against the Orange, Puffenberger scored the game-tying goal late in the first half and eventually set up teammate Elly Buckley’s game-winning goal in overtime. Virginia defeated Syracuse 2-1.

The Cavaliers play at Lafayette at 1 p.m. Saturday in Easton, Pa.
