Before I actually became a student-athlete on the UVa women’s volleyball team, I came to Mem Gym on a couple of different occasions to support the ‘Hoos and my future teammates. It was so nice to be able to hop in the car and make it to Virginia in just a little over 45 minutes. That distance is now a very important aspect for me because my family and I are super close. While cheering the team on was always a fun, exhilarating experience, nothing could compare to what it felt like to play against Virginia Tech in front of a packed Memorial Gym this weekend.

Mem Gym is very neat to play in as it is because it is so close and welcoming. I had not been able to make it to any of the UVa vs Virginia Tech games last year, so I had never gotten the chance to see the crowd first hand. But that all changed Friday night when I got to play Tech in front of an emotional crowd.

It was an experience that I will never forget. The band ringing in my ear, the many fans screaming and then looking over in the stands and seeing my mom and dad’s smiling faces! Being close to home and playing for my home state is something that I cherish and hold close to my heart!
