CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s soccer team travels to conference foe Clemson on Saturday (Sept. 25). Kick-off from Riggs Field is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia (4-1-1, 0-1-1 ACC) is coming off a 2-0 victory over American on Tuesday (Sept. 21) night. In that match, Brian Ownby (Glen Allen, Va.) had a goal and an assist, while Will Bates (Chester, Va.) scored his third goal of the season.

In addition to Bates’ three goals, Jimmy Simpson (Warrenton, Va.) has also found the back of the net three times so far in 2010, while rookie Brian Span (Somers, N.Y.), Ownby and sophomore Sean Hiller (Howell, N.J.) each have two goals.

Virginia is ranked No. 5 in the Sept. 21 Soccer America poll and No. 7 in the Sept. 21 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) top 25.

Clemson is unranked and has a 1-3-1 overall record (0-1-1 ACC). The Tigers most recently defeated Furman, 1-0, in overtime on Sept. 22. Riley Sumpter leads the team with two goals, while Nick Burton has scored one.

Virginia leads the all-time series with Clemson, 25-21-5. The Tigers won the regular-season meeting last year in Charlottesville, 1-0, and were one of just three teams to defeat UVa during its 2009 NCAA Championship season (Duke and North Carolina were the others).

Defensively for Virginia, Diego Restrepo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has started all six matches in goal and recorded three shutouts. He has allowed four goals and has a goals-against average of 0.64.

Up next for UVa, the Cavaliers return home for six-consecutive contests beginning Tuesday, Sept. 28, vs. Longwood. Kick-off vs. the Lancers is 7 p.m.
