LOS ANGELES — Two members of the Virginia women’s tennis team fell on the first day of pre-qualifying of the ITA All-American Championships on the campus of UCLA. Erin Vierra (Norwell, Mass.) lost in the second round of pre-qualifying, while Hana Tomljanovic (Boca Raton, Fla.) dropped her first round match.

Vierra opened the tournament with a 6-4, 6-3 win over No. 107 Mariam Kurdadze of Tulane. Later in the day, she lost her second round match to Alina Jerjomina of Georgia 6-3, 6-2.

Tomljanovic lost her first round match to Marianne Jodin of Fresno State, 7-6, 6-1.

Later this week, a pair of Cavaliers, Lindsey Hardenbergh (Fairfax Station, Va.) and Emily Fraser (Rye, N.Y.), will begin play at the tournament in the qualifying draw. Also later in the week is the start of doubles, with the team of Fraser/Tomljanovic in the qualifying draw and the team of Hardenbergh/Vierra in the main draw.
