Kohles? 67-65 Leads UVa Golfers to Big Lead in Tampa

Tampa, FL – Led by three players who are in the top-10 on the leaderboard, the 25th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team grabbed a 16-shot lead after the first two rounds of the Gary Koch Intercollegiate taking place at the Old Memorial Golf Club in Tampa, Fla. The Cavaliers had rounds of 6-under 282 and 14-under 274 for an opening day score of 556.
Florida State and Auburn are tied for second place at 572.
Virginia was paced by junior Ben Kohles who posted rounds of 67 and 65 for an opening day total of 12-under 132. He leads the field by three shots heading into Sunday’s final round of play. North Carolina’s Jack Fields is in second place at 135.
Joining Kohles near the top of the leaderboard are seniors Amory Davis and Will Collins. Davis fired off rounds of 71 and 69 to stand at 5-under 139. Collins is in eighth place at 141 after posting scores of 71 and 70. Ben Rusch is in 21st place at 144 including scores of 73 and 71. Mac McLaughlin is 32nd at 149 with rounds of 74 and 75. Cory Siegfried, playing as a non-scoring individual, is in 53rd place at 154.
Virginia will tee off at 8:50 a.m. during Sunday’s final round.
