CHARLOTTESVILLE – The Virginia men’s soccer team will host Liberty in non-conference action on Tuesday night (Oct. 5). Kick-off at Klöckner Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m., and live statistics will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

Virginia (6-2-1, 1-2-1 ACC) is coming off a 1-0 loss to No. 2 North Carolina on Friday night (Oct. 1). The Cavaliers are ranked No. 3 in the Sept. 28 Soccer America poll and No. 4 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll that was released on Sept. 28. The polls come out each Tuesday during the regular season.

Sophomore Will Bates (Chester, Va.) leads the Cavaliers’ offense with four goals and one assist, followed by rookie Brian Span (Somers, N.Y.) with three goals and two assists.

Defensively for Virginia, senior goalkeeper Diego Restrepo (West Palm Beach, Fla.) has posted five shutouts in nine starts for UVa. With 21 career shutouts in his two years as a Cavalier, Restrepo is chasing the school record for career shutouts (28 set by Ryan Burke from 2003-06).

Liberty (6-2-1, 2-1 Big South) has won three-consecutive contests, most recently defeating Coastal Carolina at home, 1-0. Sophomore Darren Amoo leads the team with seven goals and one assist, followed by junior Phillip Asewah with four goals and five assists.

Liberty is out-scoring its opponents 21-6 in 2010. By comparison, Virginia has out-scored its nine opponents 16-5.

Virginia leads the all-time series with Liberty, 17-0-1. The teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw last season in Charlottesville during the regular season. Bates scored the goal in that match for UVa, while Brian Ownby (Glen Allen, Va.) tallied the assist.

Ownby has contributed two goals and two assists this season for the Virginia offense.

Up next, Virginia hosts Alabama A&M on Saturday night (Oct. 9). Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
