Heineking Claims Second-Straight Panorama Farms Invitational Individual Title

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The No. 17 Virginia men’s cross country team and the No. 20 Virginia women’s cross country each captured second place in the second-annual Panorama Farms Invitation on Friday evening. The men finished second behind No. 9 Duke and the women finished runner-up to the No. 4 Texas Tech women’s squad.
Senior All-American Emil Heineking secured his second-straight Panorama Farms Invitational individual title with a time of 23:47.79, nearly 30 seconds off his course record-setting finish in the inaugural event in 2009 (23:16.19). For the women, team champion Texas Tech notched four of the top-five individual finishers, paced by individual champion Rose Tanui at 20:21.87.
Virginia’s women’s squad, which scored 55 total points behind champion Texas Tech’s 20 team points, was paced by sophomore Barbara Strehler’s sixth-place finish in 20:52.65, followed by redshirt senior Stephanie Garcia’s seventh-place finish in 20:57.15. Freshman Ariel Karabinus placed 10th overall in 21:44.64, while junior Anna Corrigan finished 12th with a time of 21:51.97 and Lyndsay Harper rounded out UVa’s top-five finishers in 20th place at 22:51.61.
The Cavaliers’ men’s team finished with 40 team points behind conference-rival Duke’s 31 points. Paced by Heineking’s triumph, nine of the race’s top 11 finishers came from UVa or Duke. The Cavaliers were also led by senior Ryan Collins’ third-place finish in 24:03.61, followed by Sean Keveren, who took ninth in 24:22.88. Senior Robbie Eckardt placed 11th in 24:28.56 and rounding out UVa’s score was junior Andrew Revelle, earning a 16th-place and a time of 24:33.88.
The Cavaliers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 30 when they head to Chestnut Hill, Mass., for the ACC Championships.
