NORFOLK, Va. — Play began Thursday at the ITA Atlantic Regional at Old Dominion University, with Virginia having a one singles player and one doubles team advance. First-year Rashmi Teltumbde won a pair of qualifying matches to reach the singles main draw, while the team of Caryssa Peretz and Marjorie Baker won their first round doubles match.

Teltumbde advanced to the main draw with a pair of straight set qualifying wins on Thursday. She topped Petra Dajevic of Radford 6-3, 6-3 amd Emily Lauten of Virginia Tech 6-4, 6-4. She joins seven other Cavaliers in the main draw, which begins Friday.

The first round of doubles was also Thursday and the team of Baker and Peretz posted an 8-2 win over Maria Prishlyak and Carmen Sandor of Penn State. They join three seeded Cavalier teams in the second round who received first round byes.

The tournament runs through Monday in Norfolk.
