NORFOLK, Va. – The Virginia women’s tennis team continued its strong play at the ITA Atlantic Regional during day three of play at Old Dominion University. The Cavaliers had four singles players and three doubles teams advance to the quarterfinals.

Four Cavaliers each won a pair of singles matches on Saturday to advance. Second-seeded Erin Vierra topped Theresa Stangl of Temple 6-2, 6-1 and Anik Cepeda of William & Mary 6-3, 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals. No. 3 seed Lindsey Hardenbergh reached the quarterfinals with a 6-2 6-2 win over Hope Johnson of William & Mary and a 7-6(5), 6-2 win over Yasmin Hamza of Virginia Tech. Emily Fraser, the No. 4 seed, defeated Diana Ivanova of Old Dominion 6-3, 6-4 and Maria Prishlyak of Penn State 6-1 6-0. Seventh-seeded Hana Tomljanovic topped Amy Simidian of Penn State 6-4, 6-3 before rallying for a 1-6, 7-6(4), 6-3 win over Ana Bara of VCU.

In doubles, the top-seeded duo of Fraser and Tomljanovic blanked Lauren Greco and Stephanie Wetmore of Georgetown 8-0 to reach the quarterfinals. The No. 2 seed, Hardenbergh and Vierra, also cruised into the quarterfinals with an 8-2 win over Petra Januskova and Simidian of Penn State. The ninth-seeded duo of Maria Fuccillo and Rashmi Teltumbde upset fourth-seeded Ana Bara and Josefin Hjertquist of VCU 8-6 to reach the quarterfinals.

Play continues on Sunday with the quarterfinals and semifinals of singles, followed by the quarterfinals of doubles.
