Alpharetta, GA – The 21st-ranked Virginia men’s golf team is in fifth place after shooting 1-over 289 during the opening round of the U.S. Collegiate Championships taking place at The Golf Club of Georgia. Georgia Tech, the host school, leads the field at 271. A total of eight teams in the field are ranked in the current top-25 poll.

Mac McLaughlin and Bruce Woodall both shot 1-under 71 to lead the Cavaliers during the first round. They are tied for 14th place. Amory Davis is 22nd at 73, Will Collins is 28th at 74 and Ben Kohles is 34th at 75.

Georgia Tech’s James White shot 10-under 62 to hold a seven-shot lead.

The second round of the tournament is slated for Monday and the final 18 holes will take place Tuesday. Live scoring of the event is online at Golfstat.com.
