Alpharetta, GA – The 19th-ranked Virginia men’s golf team finished fifth at the 15-team U.S. Collegiate Championships at The Golf Club of Georgia to wrap up its fall season. UVa shot even par 288 during the final round for a 54-hole total of 6-over 870. Georgia Tech, the tournament host, ran away with the team title. The 17th-ranked Yellow Jackets placed first at 28-under 836.

Virginia was led by junior Ben Kohles who rebounded from an opening round 75 to finish seventh at 1-under 215. Kohles posted scores of 2-under 70 during the final two rounds. Kohles’ finish was his third top-10 performance this fall and the 12th of his career.

UVa’s Amory Davis and Mac MacLaughlin tied for 20th at 3-over 219. Davis shot 72 Tuesday while McLaughlin finished with a 73. Will Collins also carded a 73 during the final round and was 31st overall. Bruce Woodall finished 39th, including a 79 Tuesday, for a 54-hole total of 224.

Georgia Tech’s James White claimed medalist honors by five shots at 12-under 204.

While the Yellow Jackets won handily, the Cavaliers managed to finish above ACC opponents Wake Forest (871), Duke (872), Florida State (889) and Clemson (905). UVa also placed above 11th-ranked Washington (894) and 13th-ranked California (876).

UVa resumes play on Feb. 16 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
