CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Sophomore swimmer Lauren Perdue shared Atlantic Coast Conference Performer of the Week honors Tuesday, the league office announced. It is the first weekly recognition of the season.
All meets leading up to the selections were included in the nomination process. Perdue and the Virginia women competed at Florida in the season-opener Oct. 11.
Perdue, a native of Greenville, N.C., won both the 100 and 200 freestyle events and led off the 400 freestyle relay team against the Gators. The 2010 ACC Freshman of the Year posted NCAA ‘B’ times in both events. In the 200 free, she clocked a mark of 1:47.33, edging 2008 Olympian Elizabeth Beisel of Florida in the event. Perdue went on to win the 100 free in 49.99.
Perdue also helped the 400 free relay team to a first-place finish and another NCAA ‘B’ time of 3:20.96. She shared the weekly honor with Duke newcomer Christine Wixted.
The Cavalier women return to the pool in a two-day tri-meet against Virginia Tech and Princeton Nov. 12-13 at the Aquatic and Fitness Center.
