FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y. — The Virginia women’s doubles team of Maria Fuccillo and Rashmi Teltumbde continued play at the 2010 ITA National Indoor Championships Friday at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, as backdraw play began. The rest of the Cavalier team opened play Friday at the Kitty Harrison Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Fuccillo and Teltumbde, who fell in their first round match 8-1 to third-seeded Josipa Bek and Keri Wong of Clemson on Thursday, rebounded with a 9-7 win over Nicole Bartnik and Bianca Sanon of Columbia in the first round of the backdraw. They will meet Hillary Barte and Mallory Burdette of Stanford in the consolation semifinals.

At the Kitty Harrison Invitational, the Cavaliers won 11 of 12 singles matches on the day. In six matches against Princeton, the Cavaliers went 6-0, including Hana Tomljanovic’s win over No. 49 Hilary Bartlett. Against Minnesota, Virginia won five of six matches. Emily Fraser, Erin Vierra, Lindsey Hardenbergh, and Caryssa Peretz all won two matches on the day, while Tomljanovic, Katie Gater and Marjorie Baker won one.

In doubles, the Cavaliers won three of four matches against Minnesota.

The Kitty Harrison Invitational continues Saturday at North Carolina and runs through Sunday.
