CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Current Virginia volunteer wrestling coach Brent Jones has moved into the U.S. Senior Freestyle National Rankings following his strong performance at the Sunkist Kids International Tournament in October. Jones, a UVa wrestler from 2005-10, is ranked No. 6 in the latest rankings at 96kg/211.5 pounds.

Competing with the Cavalier Wrestling Club, Jones took runner-up honors at the tournament, defeating David Prieto in the quarterfinals and then 2010 NCAA heavyweight champion David Zabriskie in the semifinals. Zabriskie is ranked No. 8 nationally this week. Jones fell in the finals to Brandon Halsey, who is ranked No. 5 this week.

Jones wrestled at Virginia from 2005-10 and finished his UVa career as the school’s all-time leader in pins (45) and ranks fourth in career victories (106).

Jones earned the 2010 Gorrarian Trophy at the NCAA Championships. The award is presented to the wrestler who pinned the most opponents in the least amount of time at the championships. Jones recorded a pair of pins in the competition and needed just one minute, 33 seconds to do so.
