CHARLOTTESVILLE – It’s a quick turnaround for the Virginia women’s basketball team, as the Cavaliers host Mount St. Mary’s in their 2010-11 home-opener on Sunday (Nov. 14) at 2 p.m. Live statistics and live audio (V Pass) will be available at VirginiaSports.com.

There will be a postgame autograph session following the game as Cavalier fans have a chance to get their first look at this year’s squad.

Virginia (1-0) opened its season Friday night (Nov. 12) with an 82-66 win over Hofstra in Hempstead, N.Y. Junior Whitny Edwards (Charlotte, N.C.) was the team’s leading scorer, netting 16 points and connecting on three 3-pointers.

The Cavalier frontcourt of sophomore Simone Egwu (Odenton, Md.) and freshman Jazmin Pitts (Mosely, Va.) made its presence known, as Egwu posted a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards and Pitts hauled down a team-high 17 rebounds to go with six points.

UVa got contributions from many players, as sophomore reserve guard Lexie Gerson (Fort Washington, Pa.) chipped in 14 points and four rebounds and freshman guard Kelsey Wolfe (Germantown, Md.) had her first-career double-double in her first collegiate contest with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Mount St. Mary’s is opening its season on Sunday, and finished 2009-10 with a 10-18 overall record.

Virginia leads the all-time series with The Mount, 6-0, and the teams last met on Dec. 21, 2008. In that game, Virginia came away with a 65-55 victory at John Paul Jones Arena.

Now playing its fifth season in JPJA, Virginia has an overall record of 55-15 in the arena.

Following Sunday’s contest, Virginia hits the road for a non-conference game at No. 4 Tennessee on Thursday (Nov. 18). Tip-off at Thompson-Boling Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be televised by SportSouth.
