CHARLOTTESVILLE – Virginia head coach Debbie Ryan announced the signing of Sarah Imovbioh to a National Letter of Intent to play for the Cavaliers beginning in 2011.

Sarah Imovbioh (Lagos, Nigeria), a 6-2 forward out of St. Anne’s-Belfield High School in Charlottesville, Va., averaged 32.2 points, 20.0 rebounds, 4.9 blocked shots and 4.3 steals per game during her junior high school season.

She had a 53-point performance in the VISAA Division II state semifinals to end her 2009-10 high school season.

Imovbioh, who hails from the same city in Nigeria as former Cavalier Aisha Mohammed (2007-09), is the 15th-ranked player at her position and 56th-ranked overall player in the class according to HoopGurlz.com.

Imovbioh played for STAB head coach Phil Stinnie.

“We are so excited to have Sarah joining our program,” Ryan said. “Sarah has quickly developed into one of the best post players in the country under Coach Phil Stinnie. She is a finisher around the basket and her athletic ability is outstanding. Sarah is an accomplished rebounder and will prove that she is one of the top players in this class when she takes the court at Virginia. I believe Sarah will make an immediate impact on our program both on and off the court.”

Imovbioh joins Bria Smith (Massapequa, N.Y.), whose signing was announced earlier this month.

“Our fans are really in for a treat with Bria and Sarah,” Ryan said. “They are both remarkably gifted student-athletes who will be fan favorites the minute they hit the floor.”

The Cavaliers’ class is ranked No. 8 by Hoopgurlz.com and No. 12 by All-Star Girls Report.
