Virginia (11-5-3) is making its 30th-consecutive NCAA appearance since 1981, which is the longest active streak in the nation. The Cavaliers won the 2009 title in Cary, N.C., with a 3-2 penalty kick shootout victory over Akron.

Virginia has won six NCAA Championships (1989, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994 and 2009). The Cavaliers hold an overall record of 52-24-5 in NCAA Tournament play.

Old Dominion (9-6-2) earned an at-large berth out of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA). Virginia holds a 15-5-2 advantage in the all-time series with ODU, but the teams have not faced each other since the 2005 season.

Should the Cavaliers advance to the second round, their opponent would be Penn State (13-7-1). The Nittany Lions host a second-round match on Sunday (Nov. 21) at 3 p.m.
