El Paso, TX – Virginia junior Ben Kohles opened play at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas by shooting rounds of 70 and 78 to stand in 28th place at 6-over 148. Kohles was tied for 10th following his morning round of 1-under 70 at the El Paso Country Club.

Tain Lee of Claremeont Mudd Scripps leads the field at 9-under 133 while Alex Ching of San Diego is second at 134.

The 31-player field includes seven of the top 11 amateur golfers in the world, according to the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings. Defending champion Hunter Hamrick of Alabama is in sixth place at 4-under 138.

The final round of the tournament takes place Tuesday.
