CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Junior Simone Asque has been honored on COBRA Magazine‘s All-East Region Team. COBRA Magazine‘s purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African descent in hopes of encouraging black girls across the country to pursue the sport.

Asque, an outside hitter from Chicago, Ill., led the Cavaliers in kills and aces this season, ranking third in the ACC with 3.77 kills per set and second with 0.32 aces per game.

In Virginia’s match at Clemson, Asque became the 15th Cavalier to reach the 1,000-kill plateau, finishing her third season with a career total of 1,038 kills. In addition, she notched her 500th career dig against Boston College.

Against Virginia Tech, Asque landed seven aces to tie the second-best single match output in UVa history and her career-high 30 kills in Virginia’s season-opening win over Valparaiso is tied for seventh on UVa’s single-match records.

Asque ended the season with seven double-doubles, 20 double-digit kill performances and seven double-digit dig outings.
