CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Virginia field hockey player Elly Buckley was one of 16 student-athletes named to the womensfieldhockey.com national all-rookie team. Buckley, a native of Perth, Australia, helped Virginia to the NCAA semifinals in her first season as a Cavalier.

Buckley, an All-ACC and first-team all-south region honoree, scored 19 goals and contributed a team-best 11 goals for Virginia this season. Her 11 assists are the most in program history by a freshman. She notched her first career hat trick after scoring four goals in an 8-0 victory over Radford on Oct. 24 and tallied three other multi-goal games during her rookie campaign.

Buckley is the sixth Virginia player selected to the national all-rookie team under fifth-year head coach Michele Madison. She joins Charlotte van den Broek (2009), Paige Selenski (2008), Michelle Vittese (2008), Shelly Edmonds (2007) and Traci Ragukas (2006).
