Finalists were selected based off of nominations by coaches, athletics directors and athletics department personnel. A panel of coaches including previous recipients will determine the 2010 winners. Fans can also vote by clicking here and online tallies will be considered along with a panel of coaches making the final decision. Voting online for this award ends on December 16.

Capone is in his 29th season as part of UVa football. The nominating process is anonymous, but in nominating Capone, a director of football operations who spent time in the ACC and BIG EAST told FootballScoop, “Gerry has seen coaches come and go. The leadership of the University knows that Gerry is part of the heart of that football program. I don’t know that there is a guy in the profession that is respected, almost admired, more by his administration.”
