BLACKSBURG, Va. – Freshman Anthony Kostelac led the Virginia track and field team on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Kostelac won his first collegiate title in the 800m, finishing in 1:51.59, while the Cavaliers also earned three runner-up finishes on the day.

Sophomores Brett Johnson and TJ Hobart battled Kostelac to the line in the 800m, with Johnson finishing second in 1:51.66, while Hobart took third in 1:51.93.

Senior Greg Nelson also earned a runner-up finish for the Cavaliers, tying for second-place in the high jump. Nelson cleared 6′ 8.75″.

In the women’s distance medley relay, sophomore Chelsea France, freshman Vanessa Fabrizio, junior Jenni Weatherly and freshman Colette Gnade combined to finish second with time of 12:04.12.

The Cavaliers also saw the quartet of freshman Leo McLaughlin, freshman Ozzie Bryan, junior Chris Letson and senior Adams Abdulrazaaq take fifth place in the 4x400m relay. The squad combined for a time of 3:17.74.

Virginia will return to Blacksburg, Va., next weekend for the Hokie Invitational. Events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
