Abdulrazaaq Tabbed ACC Men's Track and Field Performer of the Week
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Virginia’s Adams Abdulrazaaq has been named ACC Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
Abdulrazaaq, the school record holder in the 60m hurdles, shattered his own record of 7.85 from last year by winning the event at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday in 7.76. The mark currently stands as the top time in the NCAA this season and is .06-seconds shy of the NCAA qualifying mark.
The senior from Highland Springs, Va., is undefeated in 60m hurdles races this year, as he has won the preliminary and final rounds at both meets this season; the Liberty Kick Off and Virginia Tech Invitational.
Abdulrazaaq becomes the third Cavalier ever to be tabbed the ACC Men’s Track and Field Performer of the Week during the indoor season, while he is also the first UVa hurdler to do so. Since the inception of the award during the 2000-01 season, former Cavalier All-American Yemi Ayeni (throws – 1/20/09) and redshirt junior All-American Ryan Collins (distance – 2/16/10) have been the only other Cavaliers honored.
Virginia will return to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in the Hokie Invitational. Events are scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
