GREENSBORO, N.C.-Former Virginia standout forward Chris Williams is the Cavaliers’ 2011 Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament Legend. The 2011 ACC Basketball Legends, who will be honored at the ACC Tournament in March, were announced Tuesday (Jan. 25) by the ACC. The tournament is scheduled for March 10-13 in Greensboro, N.C.

The 2011 ACC Tournament Legends also include Michael Adams (Boston College), Thurl Bailey (NC State), Eric Brown (Miami), Greg Buckner (Clemson), Hugh Durham (Florida State), Len Elmore (Maryland), Bill Guthridge (North Carolina), Robert O’Kelley (Wake Forest), Wayne Robinson (Virginia Tech), John Salley (Georgia Tech) and Steve Vacendak (Duke).

Williams was a four-year starter for the Cavaliers from 1999-2002. He ranks tied for third in steals (189), seventh in rebounding (786 rebounds), seventh in field goals made (650), seventh in blocked shots (97) and eighth in scoring (1,812 points) on Virginia’s career lists.

The 6-7 Williams was the ACC Rookie of the Year in 1999 when he averaged 16.8 points and 7.5 rebounds a game. He earned second-team All-ACC honors in 2000 and third-team All-ACC recognition in 1999 and 2001.

Williams led Virginia in rebounding (7.5 rpg.) in 1999, in scoring (15.5 ppg.) in 2000, and in steals in 2000 (51) and 2002 (49). He shot over 50 percent from the field in each of his four seasons at UVa and 51.0 percent (650-1274) for his collegiate career.

Virginia compiled an overall record of 70-49 and participated in three postseason tournaments (one NCAA, two NIT) during Williams’ time in the program.

A native of Birmingham, Ala., Williams currently resides in Hoover, Ala.

The Legends will be honored at this year’s ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament in Greensboro at the annual ACC Basketball Legends Brunch, which will be held on Saturday, March 12 beginning at 10 a.m. Hosted by television personalities Tim Brant and Mike Hogewood, the ACC Men’s Basketball Legends Brunch will be held in the Guilford Ballroom of the Sheraton Four Seasons Hotel.
