CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Virginia track and field team will split up for competition this weekend. The Cavaliers will send some competitors to Washington’s Husky Classic on Friday and Saturday, while the rest of the team will head to NYC to compete at The Armory. Live results for the Husky Classic will be available at VirginiaSports.com, while FloTrack will also provide live video of the races.

On Friday night at Washington, senior Catherine White, redshirt junior Ryan Collins and redshirt sophomore Sean Keveren will each compete in the 5000m. Saturday, sophomore Brett Johnson will open with the mile, before redshirt senior Stephanie Garcia, redshirt sophomore Morgane Gay, redshirt junior Emil Heineking and redshirt freshman Taylor Gilland will each run the 3000m.

Events at The Armory, one of the most prestigious track and field facilities in America, are set to begin with the 60m dash at 6 p.m., on Saturday and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 10:10 p.m. Teams at the meet include Army, Brown, Columbia, Cornell, Lehigh, Maryland, Penn, Rutgers and Wake Forest.

Last weekend, junior Vincenzo Chiariello broke his own school record in the weight throw by 9.25-inches, tossing 61′ 11.5″ at the VT Elite Meet. In addition, the Cavaliers’ distance medley relay of sophomore Brett Johnson, junior Kevin Anding, freshman Anthony Kostelac and redshirt junior Emil Heineking combined for a season-best time of 9:36.41 – a mark that leads the ACC and is ranked fifth nationally this year.

Following this weekend, Virginia will return to Blacksburg, Va., for one final meet prior to the 2011 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships (Feb. 24-26). The Virginia Tech Challenge is scheduled for Feb. 18-19.
