CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA — Virginia Sports Properties announced today the hiring of Kyle Denzel, a 20-year veteran of sales, marketing and media management, as its general manager. Denzel will lead the day-to-day operations of Virginia Sports Properties, a division of CBS Collegiate Sports Properties and the multimedia rights partner of the University of Virginia athletics department. Denzel previously worked with the University of Virginia’s athletics department as the vice president / general manger of Virginia Sports Marketing from 1995 to 1997.

Denzel spent the past eight years as the owner/president of Sports Plus, a sports marketing firm in Nashville, Tenn. While in that role, he represented numerous Tennessee Titans players in marketing opportunities, negotiated sponsorships for corporate partners of the Tennessee Titans, and provided consulting services.

From 1999 to 2003 Denzel served as the general manager/director of NFL sales for the Tennessee Titans Radio Network. He was responsible for a revenue budget in excess of $4 million with sales revenue exceeding $4.5 million his last two years with the network.

“We’re pleased Kyle has decided to return to Charlottesville to lead the team at Virginia Sports Properties,” said Virginia Executive Associate Athletics Director Jon Oliver. “Kyle’s past experience working with Virginia athletics combined with his proven sales record and expertise managing radio networks are strengths that lend themselves well to meeting the goals we have for the property.”

Denzel’s previous sports marketing background includes serving as the vice president at PageNet in Dallas, working as the regional vice president for the Michigan athletic department’s Michigan Sports Marketing and spending a year as an account manager for Virginia Sports Marketing before being promoted to general manager in 1995.

Denzel began his professional career working for Sprint Cellular/Centel Cellular. He was a regional marketing manager in Virginia Beach in 1990 before moving to Charlottesville to oversee sales for central Virginia from 1990 to 1992. He moved to Chicago in 1992 to work as a product manager.

“We are excited to welcome Kyle back to Virginia,” said Doug Paschal, vice president and general manager of CBS Collegiate Sports Properties. “His leadership, experience and track record will be invaluable to making this property successful as we continue to deliver value to our sponsors and the University of Virginia.”

“I am excited to once again work with the Virginia athletics department and one of the nation’s premier universities,” Denzel said. “The CBS Collegiate team is committed to helping the department reach its goals and continue on as one of the nation’s finest athletics programs.”

Denzel graduated from Marquette University in 1989 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
